There is a phrase in Georgian: Iveria will shine. Iveria is an ancient name for Georgia and this phrase was heard here or there during hard times when I was born. At the same time, Iveria is the high-class hotel in the centre of Tbilisibuilt in the 60s and renovated in 2000s.During the hard times of the 90s Iveria became the living place for refugees and the icon of luxury turned into the icon of misery.Just before the renovation, the building looked like a gigantic contemporary art scene made of cardboard and polyethylene waste.Installation at Iveria café was made by Ninutsa and Sandro. The colourful geometric paper figures function as lamps. The background is painted in Tedzami Green which references the colour of stone that was used on the façade of the original Hotel Iveria. Thus geometric shapes and background colour serve as an abstract memorial to the history of the place. And we made Iverialiterally shine.
