Exhibition of Ushangi Khumarashvili's Works [National Gallery]

2018

The exhibition will present both the artist's early and recent works, a kind of retrospective of his work.

Ushangi Khumarashvili was born in 1948. Studied painting at Aplon Kutateladze Tbilisi Academy of Arts. He worked at the Telavi Drama Theater. Has been participating in exhibitions since the 1970s. It should be noted that the first personal exhibition of the artist was held in 1994 at the National Gallery. After that, the artist's exhibitions are regularly held in Georgia and abroad. The artist has participated in many international projects, festivals and biennials.

His artistic traditions represent the classical avant-garde. The heavy Soviet legacy and social realism kept the artist’s work in a locked space. The main stage of painting begins in the 1970s and 1980s, which established Ushangi Khumarashvili as an expressive abstractionist.
