Misha Gogrichiani

Class (Happy childhood).

Presented works are created based on the childhood memories of 1990ies. According to the artist, he always developed a special relationship with the surrounding objects which make you to get used to them, lead to certain type of love and addiction and give birth to the memories. “In 1990ies nostalgia and special attitude towards the objects became more serious and I started to express them through different mediums. However, at that time this was not a process connected to production of a specific series,” – says Misha Gogrichiani.

From the very moment of creation of the works the artist felt desire to organize an exhibition. The objects that were related to the childhood memories have occasionally already been presented at different exhibitions, but they have never been put on display as one well-thought exposition where everyone “would find his own memory”.

An ironic title comes from the social environment where the artist grew up. The soviet socialist and communist regimes created a vacuum for the whole society forcing people of all ages into being part of one thinking system, which had its own impact on the childhood of the artist and the other children of his age. In parallel to enjoying the “happy childhood”, favorite characters and objects the consciousness of the kids from that period was influenced by the machine directed towards erasing of individuality and introduction of a notion of collectivism.
