Black box records

Black box, that is placed on the board of the aircraft, makes permanent recordings about technical arrangement of the apparatus. It opens only when there is a need. The memory does not imply only past, memory implies future as well. The condition of memory includes both –past and future, as integrated, comprehensive constancy, timelessness.

The artistic process somewhat resembles black box recordings, where it’s inspirational moments, crisis stages, exalted condition, and it’s relationship with artworks and society is stored. “Black box” metaphorically opens only when works turn into product, are exhibited, or become a contemplative object.

ZuraApkhazashvili's project includes a multimedia exhibition, which unites: the painting in black-white abstraction, video with the documentation of already performed performance with the name of “black box”, and the opening day performance “dices”.

Zura Apkhazi’s paintings show the original insight of black-white abstraction. On large canvas, he works by using the pigments obtained by his own experiments. The works are directly related to the extraordinary rule of his life – he is a kind of outsider, who lives near the famous sample of Georgian historic architecture - Uplistsikhe, in Kvakhvreli village. In his works, you can feel inspiration, coming from archaic artistic forms, which represents the connection between time and space with abstract dimension. The central theme of his creativity is memory, visualization of artistic research of which is represented by using different artistic tools.
